About the Destination

The base camp for this trip is the charming village of Caposele nestled at the beginning of the Sele Valley, in the undiscovered verdant heart of Campania. Caposele is surrounded by majestic mountains, limestone cliffs, water springs, vineyards, and groves of olive trees, giving a picturesque and peaceful atmosphere. The area is known for its wild and beautiful nature and for the river Sele which from Caposele crosses the valley to the ancient Greek city of Paestum on the Cilento Coast. In Caposele and the Sele Valley, you can enjoy the authentic Italian countryside and experience genuine Southern Italian hospitality.

  1. Day 1 Welcome to Caposele

     

    • Transfer with a private bus from the airport to the accommodation in Caposele
    • Dinner
  2. Day 2 Hiking Madonna del Fiume (Picentini Mountains)

    • After breakfast, you will be transferred to a nearby village on the west side of the Sele Valley (Picentini Mountains) to hike the Madonna del Fiume trail. It is a round-trip hike of easy/medium difficulty (approx. 6 km), leading to several waterfalls and a rock-hewn sanctuary. The path offers scenic views and the soothing sounds of the river Rio Zagarone.
    • Picnic lunch
    • In the afternoon you will recover your energies with a body awareness section in Caposele
    • City walk in Caposele, visit the Water Museum, and the water springs that feed the world’s longest aqueduct: the Pugliese Aqueduct, one of the most extraordinary hydraulic engineering works ever built by hand in the world.
    • Pizza dinner at a local pizzeria
  3. Day 3 Hiking Grotta di San Michele and winetasting (Marzano Mountain)

    • After breakfast, you will be transferred to a nearby village on the east side of the Sele Valley (Marzano Mountain) to hike the Grotta di San Michele Trail. It is a round-trip scenic moderate-intensity hike (approximately 5 km). It leads to a natural cave housing a chapel dating back to around the year 1000 that offers a breathtaking view of the Sele Valley.
    • Lunch at a local agriturismo
    • Body awareness section and relax in Caposele
    • Winetasting and dinner in ancient cantinas carved into the hillsides.
  4. Day 4 Excursion to Amalfi Coast

    • Breakfast
    • Transfer to Salerno by private bus and boat trip to Amalfi. The Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is famous for its colorful cliffside villages, breathtaking views, and crystal-clear waters.
    • Explore the beauty of this coast at your own pace. You can also continue the boat trip to the famous Positano or reach Ravello by public bus (or taxi) to enjoy stunning views of the coast.
    • Lunch on your own
    • Boat trip back to Salerno
    • Dinner on your own in Salerno and transfer to accommodation in Caposele
  5. Day 5 Hiking Oppido trail and truffle lunch (Picentini Mountains)

    • After breakfast, you will transferred to the Picentini Mountains near Caposele to hike the Oppido trail. It is a loop hike of easy difficulty (approximately 8 km), which offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Along the trail, you can explore remnants of ancient Samnite fortifications, known as ”oppida,” which were defensive structures used to protect against Roman invasions
    • Truffle lunch at a local restaurant on the mountain: tasting of various dishes based on local truffles and mushrooms
    • City walk and visit San Gerardo Basilica, a pilgrimage site dedicated to Saint Gerardo Maiella, the patron saint of mothers and children. The square near the basilica offers amazing views of the Sele Valley.
    • Dinner in Caposele
  6. Day 6 Hiking the Mediterraneo Trail on Cilento Coast

    • After breakfast, you will be transferred to the Cilento Coast. This area along the Tyrrhenian Sea has beautiful, crystal-clear waters. The coast features caves, cliffs, and hidden beaches. Today’s hike is part of the iconic Mediterraneo Trail, one of the most stunning trails in Southern Italy. The hike, a loop of moderate difficulty (approx. 6 km), features ancient Saracen watchtowers, and spectacular views from sea cliffs.
    • Picnic lunch
    • Aperitivo, beach time, and dinner on your own
    • Transfer to accommodation in Caposele
  7. Day 7 Relax on Cilento Coast

    • Breakfast
    • Transfer to the mozzarella factory and tasting of buffalo mozzarella
    • Lunch on your own
    • Transfer to the ancient Greek city of Paestum, a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its well-preserved majestic Doric temples.
    • Afternoon on the beach
    • Final dinner at a restaurant with a sea view in the picturesque old town of Agropoli on the Cilento Coast
